Spring cleaning is the perfect time to rid your home of everything that is no longer serving a purpose for you and to make sure that everything is working in perfect order.
The typical tasks on a spring cleaning checklist usually include:
- Vacuuming and sweeping floors
- Washing windows
- Dusting furniture
- Organizing the kitchen, living rooms, bedrooms
- Cleaning the bathrooms
But so much more gets left off of our spring cleaning checklists than we realize. For instance, when was the last time you thought about your HVAC unit when performing your spring cleaning?
HVAC Unit
Your HVAC unit is an incredibly important part of your home, especially in the summer, which is quickly approaching. We all know that Minnesota summers are full of high temperatures and even higher humidity rates so going into this season without having looked over your HVAC unit could be very risky.
Is Air Duct Cleaning Necessary?
Air ducts are the passages that our temperature-controlled air flows through. If your ducts are filled with dust, dirt, and allergens, then all of those particles will eventually find their way into the rooms in your home.
How Often Should I Get My Air Ducts Cleaned?
According to the National Association of Air Duct Cleaners, you only need to have a thorough cleaning of your air ducts every 2 or 3 years. But this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t perform a DIY cleaning once or twice a year.
How Often Should Air Filters Be Changed?
You should switch out your air filters every six months, and if you have pets every two to three months. These filters catch a lot of the pathogens that make their way into your home’s air, but if they aren’t changed frequently, they become less effective.
